Environmental Law Service has changed its name to 'Frank Bold' in order to better reflect our unique approach. We are a purpose driven law firm combining the power of business with a non-profit approach to help solve social and environmental problems.

The University of Kent's Brussels School of International Studies is a specialist postgraduate centre offering advanced degrees covering the spectrum of international affairs. I undertook the Masters in Public International Law. The focus of my studies was on the way that corporations interact with the international legal system. My dissertation dealt with the the incorporation of the United Nations Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights into business strategy.

I was a partner at the firm for 15 years initially working across the spectrum of general legal practice but eventually engaged almost exclusively in criminal defence work and mediation. I conducted in excess of 1,000 defended criminal hearings and approximately 100 mediations. The firm operated on a corporate model and I was company secretary and was engaged in the day to day running of the practice which had 3 offices and a staff of 16. The firm was multi-disciplinary offering services in law, accounting, financial planning and mediation. Most of my work in reality amounted to gaining an understanding of context and then influencing decisions whether that be advocating in a court room, negotiating deals, facilitating conversations or designing and implementing formal alternative dispute resolution processes.

I was appointed to the Board of Directors by the Minister of Health for Victoria. I sat on both the Quality and Finance committees as well as attending to ordinary Board functions. This was the first public health service in Australia to operate across state borders. It had an annual budget in the order of $140M. I resigned from the Board when I left Australia.
