I introduced elasticsearch aggregations to build features similar to past projects in significantly less time and wrote a domain specific language to make them accessible to other teams.Browsers as an Application EnvironmentWorked with a small group of colleagues to lead a shift toward thick clients and restful services with AngularJS. It worked. By the time I left, all new development used this approach. By developing many small single page applications with shared components, we took advantage of new tools on new features and rebuilt existing features as new requirements made it advantageous.Surprise! Customizable modules work for a variety of utility companies that bill and measure in different ways with the same code.Client Facing Website RedesignA complete facelift from visual spec to a website that matches. With the front end framework in place, I continued to extend the product's feature set. These changes improved ease of use and provided utility company personnel more insight into the information Opower showed their customers. The key use cases are utility executives that want to understand the program and customer service representatives on the phone with a customer.KickbotSetting up a new utility client required a long manual review of data feeds and this time directly delayed revenue from that contract and any others waiting on the same engineers. The Kickbot, the unsleeping version of engineers named Kyle and Rick, was a web application that uploaded customer data files and performed a set of field and row validations before performing an overall analysis. Built single handedly and from scratch, Kickbot standardized and speed up the most common validation checks in one easy to use application.
