Permits Division Manager

Current

Kansas City, Missouri, United States

The Permits Division of the City Planning & Development Department for Kansas City, MO is comprised of three branches including Contractor Licensing & Customer Service, Permits, and Plans Management. The team is made up of a little over 20 great team members who work closely with other divisions, departments, design professionals, contractors, and residents. The Contractor Licensing & Customer Service Branch ensures licensed contractors (e.g. residential building contractors, electricians, plumbers, and mechanical contractors) maintain required insurance standards, obtain necessary continuing education requirements, etc. as well as handles a majority of customer service inquires mostly focused on plan review and permitting requirements. Additionally, the team schedules all building inspections. The Permits Branch handles most over the counter permitting requirements, conducts zoning reviews on proposed one and two-family construction projects and some multi-family projects, they ensure permitting requirements and standards are met prior to permit issuance, provide detailed guidance to applicants on next steps, city ordinances, and general Q&A.The Plans Management Branch reviews are submitted private construction projects of minimum quality standards before routing to applicable review teams. This quality control review is essential to providing timely responses and guidance applicants to ensure these minimum standards are met before formalized reviews commence. My personal duties include overseeing these three branches within the Permits Division. Additionally, I assist with code amendments, process improvements, developing training plans, website content updates, serve as a core team member for the department's management of the CompassKC software system, and work closely with the Permits team along with other departments to promote development within the city.
