CurrentCooper King Distillery is a self-built, crowd-funded distillery in Sutton-on-the-Forest, York, producing sustainable spirits distilled with craftsmanship, honesty and adventure. It’s the first in England to produce carbon-negative gin and the first in Europe to join environmental initiative 1% for the Planet.Producing gin, vodka and whisky, they run on 100% renewable energy and are champions of sustainability. They work closely with Yorkshire farmers, distil using locally grown grain and botanicals, opted for lightweight recycled glass bottles, developed plastic free postage and plant one square metre of native English woodland for every bottle of gin sold.Founded in 2016 by Dr Abbie Neilson, a former scientist and Chris Jaume, a chartered architect, the venture was inspired by travels to Australia and Chris’s adventurous great-great-grandfather, Charles Cooper King, whose family has rich historical ties to Yorkshire dating back to 1030.Situated just 10 miles north of the historic city of York and nestled between the Howardian Hills AONB and Yorkshire Dales National Park, the distillery is perfectly located to attract visitors to its rustic tasting room, which is open 12-6pm every Saturday.Read more at http://www.cooperkingdistillery.co.uk.
