Work with partner institution (WCS-Bronx Zoo) to co-create and co-facilitate SIMPL aligned Continuing Professional Learning Times that allow teacher-participants to learn the science content, skills, and cross-cutting concepts that they can use in their classrooms along with Zoo resources. At my school, I work to support new and veteran teachers with science instruction using the Urban Advantage tools, partner institution visitors, classroom visits, and assisting in planning and executing field trips to partner institutions. This year, focus is on encouraging each teacher to use their field trip vouchers to support a unit they are teaching and to encourage families to utilize their family voucher slips.

Throughout the school year, manage groups of students to conduct hands-on, STEM investigations of how vulnerable MS 88 and surrounding communities are towards hurricanes, coastal flooding, and extreme heat, and how prepared the school is in case of emergencies. Assist students in facilitating community conversations about climate crisis, and how to prepare for modeled impacts of climate crisis in Brooklyn NY. Encourage student group members to assemble empirical data and presentation materials for symposia to the NYC Office of Resilience and Recovery in 2018 and 2019. Provide feedback for curricula design team throughout and at the end of the school year for better learning experiences for students.

NYC Teaching Fellows is a rigorous and demanding program that allows individuals to bring their backgrounds and experience into the classroom. Fellows undergo Pre-Service Training during the summer, focusing on key teaching techniques, responsive coaching sessions, and lesson planning for summer school students. At night, fellows study for their Masters in Education and apply for the Transitional B Certification. This work will prepare fellows for the Autumn, where they will be required to teach at a high-needs school.

At the Wild Bird Fund, there's a lot to be done, and not many people do it all - thus, why I am a jack-of-all-trades at this amazing non-profit. While I'm at the center, I'm either supervising our wonderful volunteers, assisting with the intakes of new patients, assessing our current patients' status for release, taking care of the baby birds, or doing diagnostic testing. When I'm not at the center, I'm researching foundations, or working on the new IT initiative to streamline our patient records and our government-required summary logs.

Reach out to schools to implement the Wild Bird Fund's new bird-based curriculum, that focuses on inquiry-based science, and how students can make a difference in the lives of NYC wildlife. Create and develop new public programs that feature the wildlife rehabilitation center, and the plethora of species in NYC. When I'm not doing that, I'm in the classroom, teaching the little owlets the wonders of NYC wildlife.

As a veteran teaching fellow, I took on the tasks of helping the new fellows with managing the classroom, and how to teach certain issues (such as poaching, deforestation), and was entrusted to lead camp when my supervisors needed me to do so. I taught two different camps: 4 to 7 year olds in Pablo Python Camp about introductory biology topics, such as what is a habitat, what is camouflage, etc; and 8 to 12 year olds in Animal Kingdom Camp about more advanced topics, such as climate change, poaching, deforestation, and so forth.

Co-created and co-delivered a curriculum centered on conservation biology and its principles, such as defining biodiversity and its loss, and environmental policy, to 10th to 12th grade students who were academically gifted. Fostered critical thinking skills through the use of debate, case studies, and primary literature. Encouraged science literacy development by promoting submission and discussion of science news articles.

Assisted lead instructors in directing and delivering lesson plans focused on wildlife and conservation topics, such as habitats, threats, and policies. Taught campers - ages 4 to 7 and 8 to 12 - about local flora, fauna, natural history and ecological topics, such as the water cycle, while traveling through the zoo.

Using the concepts of soccer - a universal sport - I related ecological concepts to the class, which had a high diversity in cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
