My family first discovered the hidden gem that is Sebastian, Florida in the 1980's. My parents and grandparents have both been lucky enough to call Sebastian home and I have been a regular visitor for the past 2 decades. I have now decided to raise my own family here in Sebastian for several reasons. The uncrowded beaches are second-to-none and watching turtles nest in the summer is a spectacle of nature. Sebastian is also home to Pelican Island, the very first National Wildlife Refuge designated by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. The San Sebastian River is one of Florida's last remaining natural rivers, emptying into the Indian River Lagoon. It is located directly across from the Sebastian Inlet which allows for easy boat access to the emerald-green Atlantic coast and deep-sea fishing. The Inlet is also known for world-class surfing.
