Co-founded DataNexus for the purpose of bringing data from disparate sources in a secure and compliant manner, enabling analysis in near-real time. Assist the CTO for Global Infrastructure in: supporting sales process across offerings, developing and implementing a coherent technical strategy, and continue to support and lead research and development of emerging technology.

Responsible for all partner reference architectures: Intel, EMC, Dell, Lenovo, Brocade, Arista, Docker, Cloudera, Hortonworks, DataStax. Deliver FISMA, PCI, HIPAA certified big data platform to clients. Lead R&D projects in support of emerging technology. Support transition of incubator offerings and technology to global business units.

What does a big data delivery center look like? What tools and technologies are involved? What's the ratio of operations to development staff? How do they progress in their careers? What sorts of training and certifications are ACTUALLY useful in the real world? I'm striving to answer all these questions every day in my new role. Previously, I worked as the lead architect in data services, where I dealt with the beginning stages of our platform. What should it look like? What types of data should it include and why? How would it handle the massive amounts of data ingest, storage, and analytics? While I ultimately didn't get to answer all of these questions, what I did get to to is design and build the next generation of ClimatEdge probabilistic forecasting for severe weather. Definitely one of the cooler things I've done.Prior to that, I designed and implemented a replacement event monitoring system that uses Cassandra, Apache, Python, and several other technologies to handle real time analytics on security events in the enterprise to ensure the correct threat posture at NASA Ames.

Development operations lead for NASA’s Advanced Supercomputing Center IT Security team. Responsible for managing the group and all deliverables. I primarily developed a hardware and software security architecture for protecting NASA’s supercomputers against emerging threats. The overall system had to be certified as a security architecture that is NIST, FISMA, and HSPD-12 compliant, allowing for multi-factor authentication and secure data transfer from anywhere in world.Prior to IT Security, I was responsible for creating and leading the internal tools group and focusing the team on practical applications of technology rather than research projects. Over several years, we deployed Nagios for monitoring project Columbia, consolidated all databases to ensure data integrity and reduced costs associated with various architectures, developed a data warehouse for NASA’s Return To Flight effort, replaced a legacy AR Remedy system with the Open Ticket Reporting System and created a recurring weekly presentation on new software/hardware technologies with a focus on how they can be used at NASA.Additionally, I was a developer on NASA's Information Power Grid, which used Java and the Globus Toolkit to develop technology for International Space Station science portal, hosted at Marshall Space Flight Center.

As a member of the Integration and Test team, I designed and developed a multi-tiered testing framework for the fixed-wireless product using open source and COTS tools, including Postgres, Oracle 8i & 9i, C, PHP and the LAMP stack. As part of my overall duties as assigned, I assisted with security scanning, vulnerability and exploit auditing, Java development and performance tuning, embedded development in C, and overall system capacity planning for the system management software. When the company went through a period of downsizing, I performed all aspects of CIO role: enterprise systems and network architecture of corporate, engineering, and field networks including purchasing, installation, documentation, and maintenance, and security operations.

I was initially responsible for software development on the main product and then transitioned into the lead for development operations. I lead the Development Operations team for our Java based transaction management product and worked with core teams on improvements, bottlenecks and deployment for each customer.Along the way, I formed the Release Management Infrastructure group and developed nightly builds of our API's, created an automated regression testing system, and ensured the nightly code builds happened.As the focus shifted from development to customer deployment, I worked as a Java developer in Professional Services,where I analyzed client requirements and developed custom changes as needed. I also worked with the marketing team on transitioning our business model from a framework to an ASP.

I was a consultant responsible for project management, software development, systems administration and all other tasks as assigned.My overall projects included being the task lead and data-flow architect on a multi-tier system involving Java, Perl, HTML, and Bourne/C shell scripting for processing near real-time data feeds into the largest research Oracle installation in the world. I took an eight month absence from that project to handle the lead development duties on a Java based system designed to reformat legacy data into XML through XSL-T and CSS for a federal government agency.My longest project involved being the local development lead for NIMA's secondary imagery system consisting of Client/Server and Web based software design in Perl, C, C++, X/Motif, and Sybase on multiple hardware architectures. Along the way, I did a year as a systems administration consultant for a U.K. Royal Air Force imagery network consisting of hundreds of Solaris systems.My final assignment was extending a billing framework for n Canadian ISP using Java, C++, Perl, Oracle, JavaScript, HTML, and Cisco IOS.

Assisted University of Maryland professor in geophysical and remote sensing research.Designed and implemented software system in C, Bourne Shell, and IDL to automatically retrieve and process remote sensing data. Handled systems administration duties for a network of HP Apollo workstations.
