I began working with HSG as the General Manager of the Fitness and Recreation Services at the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA. My skills in relationship building, staff training, leadership and strategic planning contributed to the current day success of the Centre. My work with both the professional staff and volunteer leaders at this facility included: strategic planning, facility design & equipment procurement, operational planning, financial planning & budgeting, marketing, sales & promotion planning & implementation, customer service training, and managing day-to-day operations.

Worked in two different YMCA Centre’s managing the delivery of all Health, Fitness, and Recreation programs including aquatics, strength and conditioning, group fitness, squash and gym sports. Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and developing new program initiatives, contributing to the senior management team(s) and playing an important role on the Local Advisory Committees. Managed a team of three full-time coordinators, 4 permanent part-time supervisors, 35 part-time staff and 85 volunteers. Developed, controlled and evaluated the departments’ budgets, business plans, and strategic plans. Played a key role in the YMCA annual giving campaigns and learned to maintain open lines of communication with large numbers of volunteers, staff, and members.

Responsible for the management and supervision of the Aquatics Department at the West Island Family Centre, oversight of the YMCA Outdoor Community Aquatics Programs, and the delivery of youth fitness and sports programming. Developed and maintained quality aquatics, fitness and sports programming for children of all ages, prepared and monitored annual budgets, supervised a staff of 120 part-time lifeguards, instructors, educators, volunteers, and camp counsellors, and designed most of my own program marketing and promotion.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area

Worked abroad for 18 months with Royal Caribbean Cruises as a member of the Cruise Staff with the responsibility of running onboard activities for children ages 5 to 17. I also taught the Mad Science™ curriculum to young passengers.
