The real estate industry faces serious challenges today including shrinking operating budgets, insufficient capital investment, and pressures to increase occupant and customer experience. My role is to create value for my clients by bringing innovation to real estate. Transforming real estate teams into truly innovative organizations involves:1. Creating a framework to gather diverse ideas and mature these through a community of innovators into pragmatic business cases which deliver the desired outcomes required by my clients4. As Director of Finance my duties included establishing and analyzing performance against an annual spend of $450 million for real estate services and projects for a North American leader in Financial Institutions. My goal was to create financial clarity to business leaders. We accomplished this by (i) creating forecasts based on financial models with clear and well understood drivers, (ii) transparency of results- accessible reporting, reporting which was meaningful to business leaders and (iii) Accountability- clarity is achieved when we have open conversations between operations and finance teams. Insight comes from sharing information. Controls- financial controls and audit readiness. This is achieved when team members understand and can see how the various controls points work towards ensuring financial information is reliable, accurate, and has proper support. Having team members map out and update processes regularly with their team-mates ensures efficient workflows and potential weakness.Other duties:- Pricing new business opportunities- Month end reporting and analysis- Consolidation accounting for North American results- Annual and 5 year budget preparation- Client interaction
