About Christopher Malo

Through my work and living in the city for several decades, I have become intimately familiar with the neighborhoods, people, organizations, and cultures which comprise the patchwork of communities making up Philadelphia.I am an assistant professor at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication in the Department of Journalism where I also serve as executive director of the department's capstone program, PhiladelphiaNeighborhoods.com.Our mission is to better tell stories in the undercovered and underserved neighborhoods of Philadelphia. In addition to teaching journalism production classes and overseeing the editorial decisions, direction, and duties, I also have also participated in special projects such as serving as editor for the Temple DNC News Bureau and managing various grant/fellowship programs. I was also a part of a team that performed The Philadelphia Inquirer's 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Audit.The completion of a MS in communication for development and social change further sharpened my proficiency. It reinforced my thinking and ability to use communication to affect societal change on a local level, something I am passionate about.
