About Topher Mcfarland
Over my career I have focused on developing and integrating novel control, state estimation, and model identification algorithms into fielded robotic systems. For over a decade at Amazon Prime Air I have worked to create novel performant control systems for Amazon's uniquely scalable drone delivery system. My current emphasis is validating and integrating customer focused closed performance improvements. I completed a PhD in the Dynamical Systems and Control Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University; my dissertation is titled "Adaptive Identification and Control for Underwater Vehicles: Theory and Comparative Experimental Evaluations" (https://www.dropbox.com/s/tdndmggbddbm52e/McFarlandFinal.pdf ). I also completed a post-doc at Johns Hopkins University developing under-ice navigation and autonomous return-to-ship algorithms for the Nereid-UI vehicle of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In July 2014 I deployed with a team of researchers on the Icebreaker R/V Polarstern to quantify and model light transmittance through Arctic ice (https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1002/2015JC010914).
