I am a full-time, final year Postgraduate Research student at the University of Leicester researching the preservation of melanin-based colour in the fossil record. I am interested in communicating exciting scientific discoveries to wider audiences including the general public, businesses, and policy makers. My passion for science communication can be seen in the numerous public outreach initiatives I have been involved in, which include organising, designing and presenting at a stand for the Yorkshire Fossil Festival, participating in the Science Uncovered event at the London Natural History Museum, and developing teaching materials to be distributed to schools on behalf of the Earth Science Teacher's Association. I have presented my work to large audiences at international conferences in Brisbane and Valencia, allowing me to expand my verbal communication skills. I have strong visual communication skills which I developed through a photography degree and which can be seen in my recent People's Choice award I received for my entry in the Images of Research competition at the University of Leicester. I also enjoy the natural world and the outdoors, my enthusiasm for which has been enriched by my previous positions as a ski instructor in both the UK and Switzerland.
