Application Developer
While employed as as a full-stack developer in the Department of Information Technology at Centralia College. I constructed, maintained, and refactored existing application code serving the employees, instructors, and students of Centralia College. Simply, my goal was to create secure, intuitive applications that stakeholders trusted and the community could rely upon.
Senior Research Associate
My collaborative endeavors Georgetown University working with Dr. Jagmeet Kanwal and Dr. James Gnadt focused on three overlapping areas of study: visual and auditory processing by neurons in non-human primates and bats, respectively, and anxiety disorders in human subjects. Most recently, I have worked collaboratively with Dr. Jagmeet Kanwal toward modeling responses to communication vocalizations of single neurons recorded from the auditory cortex of bats. We also began a human study with the goal of demonstrating a spectrum of responses to distress in normal subjects during an eye movement task with EEG to find a consistent physiological measure, a “physiological marker”, for determination of susceptibility to anxiety disorders, such as PTSD. Prior to the inception of these studies, and while overseeing the day-to-day operations of Dr. James Gnadt's non-human primate research laboratory, I collaborated on three large scale projects. The first project was designed to explore the effect of microstimulation occurring at two locations in the superior colliculus. The second project was designed to determine the role of the brainstem's arousal system in visual perception using electrophysiology and microstimulation in behaving Rhesus monkeys. The third project was designed to examine the role of the inferior colliculus neurons in processing of complex auditory stimuli and how these auditory stimuli may change neural representations of visual- and saccade-related signals also carried by these neurons.
Research Scientist
For the near decade spent at the University of Washington in the departments of Physiology and Biophysics and Biological Structure, I collaborated extensively with Dr. Albert Fuchs, Dr. Chris Kaneko, and Dr. Farrel Robinson on numerous studies all with the primary focus of uncovering the underpinnings of the adaptive process maintaining the accuracy of eye movements by the mid-line cerebellum.
