The role focuses on all aspects of support and administration of multiple storage and backup infrastructures, delivering business critical services to a wide variety of clients. I am responsible for managing all aspects of our storage and backup infrastructure;Engage with customers to identify requirements and collaborate with multiple teams to ensure customer needs are met.Undertaking system management using BMC Patrol and SANScreen/OCI. Functional tool allowing for incidents to be raised, diagnosed and repaired with the aim to reduce the impact potential failures have on client’s infrastructure and applications.Storage administration, maintenance, configuration. Day to day administration work of infrastructure to ensure smooth running allowing customers to work as effectively as possible.Providing capacity planning and monitoring to allow correct billing.Troubleshooting – provide incident and problem analysis for ongoing issues that require a long time period to fix. Areas include taking ownership of problems, progression of problems to avoid stalemate with the overall aim of a permanent resolution.Coordinate internal and third party vendors in relation to incident actions.Responsible for incident response and provide actions to resolve incidents. Provide corrective action for storage solution when hardware failures occur through the use of third party vendors. Provide software upgrade fixes, and engage with customer and other technical teams to minimise the risks to customers when providing resolutionsWillingness to go above and beyond what is required in the traditional definition of the job to ensure satisfaction of the customer. Carry out working policies within customer environment so ensure complete transparency to the customer. Coordinate other technical teams to complete risk management of customer environments when undertaking upgrades or transforming new infrastructure for clients.

I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University to fill a technical role, provide 3rd line support to the university, and to develop and implement new infrastructure projects. I covered a wide range of activities, quickly developed my knowledge from courses and my learning from my peers becoming a key member of the team, and the IT department.• Provide 3rd Line Support to University Infrastructure• Review new IT projects and provide solutions which would include low level design, followed by implementation.• Analyse existing systems and ensure that they and up to date, and providing the best resources to the university• Conduct technical assessments of university infrastructure and collaborate with various department to devise technical solutions.• Monitor and respond to system problems, and provide corrective action• Produce new and maintain existing documentation for University Systems• Conduct technical assessments of new technologies for university use.• Work with stakeholders and leadership to enhance existing systems, and introduce new tools to the university• Support team members with areas of expertise offering advice and guidance when required.• Contribute to Change and Patch Management and review requests.• Communicate with stakeholders and leadership in relation to high profile incidents keeping appraised of incidents and risks. Seek approval for action if and when required.• Manage hardware within Data Centres and ensure systems are maintained to supported matrices.
