About Chris Wheat

Chris Wheat is Managing Director for Policy and Government Affairs at the Sustainable Cities Fund. The Fund was established to provide financial support, technical assistance, and guidance for place-based programs and projects that create economic opportunity for all, improve lives, and help stop the climate crisis. The Fund operates as a strategic regrantor, which means we work directly with cities, local partners, and other subnationals to ensure that our funders' programs and projects have a greater impact. In addition, Chris serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is on the Board of the Center for Neighborhood Technology. Chris joined the Fund from the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at Chicago Booth, where he served as Executive Director. Previously Chris directed strategy and city engagement for the American Cities Climate Challenge at the Natural Resources Defense Council. Chris also spent seven years in various roles in the Office of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, including Chief of Policy, and Chief Sustainability Officer. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Chris holds a BA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from Chicago Booth.
