Chris currently serves as Senior Vice President of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting at Kilroy Realty Corporation, a publicly traded real estate investment trust and member of the S&P MidCap 400 Index with over 100 properties and a stabilized portfolio of approximately 15.5 million square feet of office and life science space along the West Coast and in Austin, TX. In this role, Chris oversees the external reporting functions of the company, including both SOX and periodic SEC reporting requirements. In addition, he also leads the corporate accounting function, as well as providing technical accounting oversight for the Company’s construction and development projects.Prior to joining Kilroy Realty, Chris served as Controller at SmartStop Asset Management, overseeing the accounting team for several public non-traded REITs investing in a variety of asset classes throughout the United States and in Toronto, Canada, including self-storage facilities and both student and senior housing communities.Subsequent to graduating from Cal State Fullerton with his degree in business administration, Chris spent 12 years in public accounting, most recently as senior manager in PwC's Real Estate Industry group, working with both public and private real estate clients including real estate investment trusts (REITs), real estate investment fund managers, as well as entities involved in commercial development, property management, and hospitality.With over 20 years of professional experience, Chris is knowledgeable in accounting methods and practices under US GAAP, Federal Income Tax Basis, Real Estate Information Standards (REIS), and AICPA Investment Company Guide accounting standards, as well as conducting audits under PCAOB auditing standards. He also has extensive experience with SEC 1933 and 1934 Act filings, including registration statements on Forms S-3, S-4, S-8, and S-11.Additional areas of technical expertise include:- Sarbanes-Oxley Act section 404 requirements- ASC 805 business combinations (including valuations related to purchase accounting)- ASC 810 variable interest entities- ASC 815 derivative accounting and hedge accounting- ASC 842 lease accounting
