Licensed Practical Nurse
Current• Knowledgeable in long and short-term care, including acute, chronic and rehabilitative; work in conjunction with medical teams to formulate best plans of action.• Tend to patients in medical wards; dispensing and administering medication, performing wound care and applying sterile dressings, and performing Foley catheter insertions/removals and care, supra pubic catheter care, sub-cut line insertions/removals, peg tube nutrition and care, ostomy care and specimen collection for lab analysis.• Working directly under the supervision of an RN and directing 5 healthcare attendants, managed residential care units of 35+ residents.• Perform detailed reporting duties on patient conditions and medication administration to ensure patients are provided optimal care; also take on administrative duties as necessary.• Display exceptional assessment, observation and critical thinking skills, as exemplified during a situation in which a patient was experiencing problems with eating. Observed and assessed the patient, and collaborated with a dietician to identify a solution.• Successfully counsel and educate clients and their families on health situations, diet and exercise, medications and treatments, and harm reduction, as well as community and government support services. • Thrive in multi-faceted, fast-paced positions in various types of care units; carry out nursing interventions while offering emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.• Liaise with doctors and social workers to determine appropriate next steps for each patient; consult with medical staff in regards to food intake assessment and mobility issues; act as a role model and provide ongoing training and support to healthcare attendants.• Assist residents with rest and mobilization, such as sitting up, walking and ambulating in wheelchairs or therapeutic chairs. Also assist residents with personal hygiene, grooming, and body care.
