I’m a software project manager with significant experience in mobile autonomous robotics and a passion for autonomy and its practical applications to solve real world problems. My PhD in cooperative autonomous underwater vehicles created a field-demonstrated multi-vehicle system and was published in multiple international scientific conferences and journals. I managed a team of 5-7 engineers and oversaw the requirements, design, development, evaluation and deployment of over 50 distinct software modules running on a modular embedded architecture. To ensure high quality software I strongly advocated Continuous Integration (CI) and Testing (CT) and our procedures formed the basis of the company quality assurance policy. -
Senior Development EngineerSeebyte Jan 2012 - Dec 2014Edinburgh, GbI was the lead software/systems engineer on the Autonomous Inspection Vehicle (AIV) project where I was the main point of contact for all vehicle software and architecture. I designed and implemented many of the core vehicle systems including but not limited to the Mission Executive, Communications Manager and low-level Control Systems. As part of this role I set up and maintained the Continuous Integration (CI) system and looked after full system Configuration Management. I lead multiple field verification trials and demonstrations with external stakeholders. Additionally I managed some of the company’s internal software resources.

While in the role I was part of a team that successfully developed and demonstrated a new prototype autonomous underwater vehicle that went on to become the Autonomous Inspection Vehicle (AIV) project.

My responsibilities ranged from software design/development to project management. Some of my achievements included developing software designed to help operators monitor limited communication autonomous vehicle missions and running a multi-day in-water demonstration of a collaborative multiple autonomous underwater vehicle control system that coordinated a university-built experimental autonomous underwater vehicle with a commercial AUV (Hydroid REMUS 100).
