About Christopher Wenk
The cross-section of international affairs and politics has always been a passion of mine. That passion explains how I've spent over 15 years in the world of international trade, first as a staffer for a senior member of the House Ways & Means Committee followed by stints at the National Association of Manufacturers and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Now I feel fortunate to be leading the DC government affairs office of a Korean auto manufacturer that has a big story to tell about investment and jobs in the United States. There are big changes happening in the U.S. auto industry and it is fun to be part it.

CurrentWith the rapid changes occurring in the automotive industry, I lead the strategic management of Kia Motors' U.S. public policy direction and our efforts to promote the company's point of view to legislators and regulators at the federal, state and local levels. My day-to-day activities vary from developing and disseminating Kia's public policy positions to fostering and developing bipartisan relationships. I am in daily contact with our various stakeholders and internal departments, providing guidance and thought leadership in key policy areas.
Executive Director, International Policy And Chief Trade Lobbyist
I was responsible for promoting the Chamber’s broad international trade and investment agenda before Congress and the Administration. Among my key accomplishments, four stand out. The first was playing a leading role on trade advocacy within the U.S. business community, including managing coalition activities around trade issues like NAFTA and TPP. Another was leading the Chamber and business community effort in a major campaign to secure bipartisan congressional passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation and other trade initiatives. The third was coordinating the Chamber’s grassroots and grasstops efforts on trade with state and local Chambers of Commerce and other key stakeholders including state elected officials. The last was managing the International Policy Committee and Trade Task Force, which develop the Chamber’s policy positions and recommendations relating to international trade and investment.
Senior Director, International Policy
Leading up to my promotion as Executive Director, I spent several years leading the Chamber’s efforts to win bipartisan congressional passage of trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, Peru and South Korea. Also I played a key role in securing Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) with Russia and re-authorization of the Export-Import Bank.I played a key role in Chamber’s efforts related to the work of the Geneva-based World Trade Organization (WTO), including negotiations to expand manufacturing and services trade and to promote trade facilitation.
Director, International Policy
As part of the nation's largest industry trade association, I advocated on behalf of members on international trade issues ranging from WTO negotiations to bi-lateral free trade agreements. Among my accomplishments was playing a central role in securing congressional passage of the U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement and the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement.
Senior Legislative Assistant
Under Congressman Camp, I handled his Trade Subcommittee's work as well as Agriculture, Education, Energy, Social Security, Pension and some Tax related issues.
