In my role at Smithville, I work alongside the Project Management team to research, plan, and coordinate new projects and services that the company plans to pursue. I have had the opportunity to work on various projects in all parts of the project life cycle. As part of the Project Management team, much of my work involves cooperation with many other people both inside and outside the company. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all of Smithville's employees had to work from home from April to July of 2020 and thus I had the opportunity to re-imagine and rework the ways the various project teams interacted with the various stakeholders. This opportunity to engage in teleworking was incredibly valuable to my internship experience because it taught me to think quickly on my feet and provided me the ability to implement important changes to the project management system that will lead to increased efficiency over the long-term for Smithville.

K-201 is an introductory class in the Kelley School of Business that focuses on Management information Systems principles and teaches beginner to intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Access . As a Teaching Assistant, I had the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the class concepts and I used this expertise to teach students both in a classroom setting and in one-on-one office hours. During my tenure, I was also promoted to be on the TA leadership team where I acted as the Alternate Exam Coordinator for 3 semesters. In this role, I tracked and reviewed alternate exam requests for both practical exams and also organized the exam rooms and proctoring on the night of each exam.

During my time at Toyota Material Handling I worked as an intern under the head of IT Systems QA and Compliance. While at Toyota, I had the opportunity to learn about the Toyota Production System and its applications in all corners of the company. In particular, my role allowed me to see how IT Systems are a primary facilitator of continuous improvement (kaizen) throughout various parts of the company. In addition to many other tasks, my overarching project during my internship was to create and implement a storage solution for workflow and standard operation procedure documents that spanned 7 departments. During this project I coordinated a team of over 20 people from the 7 departments to plan, create, and implement a custom database solution to help easily store and maintain job specific data in a secure and easy-to-use way.
