Having accumulated a total of 17 years of professional experience as a Structural Engineer, I’ve been involved on a variety of projects ranging from long span roofs to super-tall high-rise buildings. I am a passionate, but pragmatic, hands-on technical problem solver. The results of my contributions are seen not just in the elegance of the solution, but also in the passion and joy experienced throughout the design process. I am a Builder. The easiest way to describe myself would be that “I build buildings”. Of course, to build a building requires a large team of individuals and major time and commercial investment. Within the complicated food chain, I collaborate with architects to play a pivotal role in helping the contractors get the building built. I use my technical engineering input to inspire and help solve the problems on the project as they occur. I am a proven problem solver and do so creatively, responsibly and artistically. My contributions ‘when at the table’ are not necessarily the loudest or the first to be communicated, but once the facts are clear and the agenda is set, I communicate a clear and convincing message that often generates debate, but equally gains the respect of the table and often a collection of supporters in the process. I am privileged to work on an ever-changing set of challenges with each new project. I enjoy that every problem solved is different. The ability to get immersed in a project, whether it’s the scale of a building or the design of a piece of furniture is rewarding at a personal level. Being able to methodically work through a problem by means of collaboration, experience and discovery is truly fulfilling.
