I worked at John Deere after high school and then on and off during and after college. Created an effective tool inventory in Excel. This job included: cataloging all specialized John Deere tools on hand at the dealership, taking a tool room and all the overflow locations where tools were stored and organizing them into bins and shelves, creating a systematic and simple way for technicians to lookup and check out tools. The final results included: Technicians being able to locate the tools needed for a specific job in a matter of seconds (before the system was in place I witnessed a technician looking for a tool for over an hour that he wasn't even sure the dealership had on hand but was necessary to complete his job), technicians having an easy and effective way to find and check out tools, a way to tell if another technician was currently using a tool so someone wasn't looking for something in the tool room that was checked out, and eliminating the question of whether the dealership even had the tool in the first place. Total project time took three months. Worked one year as a parts-man putting daily stock away and assisting technicians and customers in ordering and finding parts.Started working at John Deere the fall after I graduated from high school. My job was basically a "gofer". I mowed the lawns, cleaned the show room, washed the salesmen's vehicles, drove equipment to and from customers, and anything else that needed to be done.
