I spend most of my time thinking about ethics and economic choice - focusing particularly on the choices of leaders, but I also care deeply about choices made by various professionals. When not focusing on ethics and economic choice I spend most of my time helping the Court determine the value associated with bad behaviors, particularly illegal and unethical behaviors. I enjoy helping the Court figure out the direct costs, and sometimes the indirect social costs associated with wrongdoing so that an injured party and society can be made whole. I have written economic reports on matters associated with labor union negotiations, breach of contract, restrictive covenants, illegal competition, trademark and patent infringement, personal injury damages, wrongful termination, shareholder oppression, matrimonial disputes, breach of joint ventures, hedonic damages, class-action suits, wrongful death, white collar crime, FINRA arbitration matters, SEC/securities fraud, and many similar matters. I also conduct social science research for government and quasi-government organizations.

Principal Of The Firm, Valuation, Strategy And Litigation Support ServicesSobel & Co., Llc Sep 2014 - Apr 2018Livingston, New Jersey, UsAs the Managing Director and Principal of the practice, my team was responsible for valuing privately owned corporations and intellectual property assets. We were hired by trial attorneys, private equity investors, creditors, c-level executives and the court to assist with establishing fair market value and/or fair value for such assets as it relates to investments, divestitures, purchases, intellectual property, intangible property, shareholder disputes, sales of thinly traded securities, bankruptcy, and many other engagements. In addition to the valuation assignments, we were engaged by trial attorneys to calculate commercial damages for complex, litigated, national and international matters. These disputes include but are not limited to lost profits, restitution damages, loss of use, intellectual property licensing disputes, RICO violations, franchise disputes, breach of contract, fraudulent conveyances, and many other legal claims.Because of the exposure to many valuation cases, we were asked by investors, creditors and c-level executives to assist with operational and financial due diligence assignments. The due diligence assignments may be related to a cross-border M&A transaction, strategic investment, or leveraged private equity purchase transaction. Other economic projects that we have completed include but are not limited to labor negotiations between public worker unions and government officials, labor disputes between teachers and the union, public policy economic assignments and many other similar projects. Our practice also specializes in performing strategic advisory work, including developing de-novo strategies for start up companies, turnaround strategy identification, blue ocean strategy development, bench-marking, balanced scorecard, assisting with strategic fund raising projects and many other projects that cut across finance and business positioning. -
