Research and development into an automated ironing machine, this role has seen the design and fabrication of robotic mechanisms, as well as revolutionising and optimising ironing processes. Common considerations include materials selection, design for assembly, design for manufacture and troubleshooting sub-systems. Utilising both practical and theoretical aspects of engineering, this thought-provoking role is fundamental to a successful career in engineering.

An annual, summer job where I worked to refurbish Solar T62-T32 turbine engines, and assemble specifically designed gearboxes that would fit directly onto Ultrasport 496 helicopters. In addition, the job role required helicopter assembly, component machining, and retrofit mounting to be done under a decreasing supervision over time. Throughout my time here, I have been introduced to various dilemmas and encouraged to identify any possible means of overcoming them. This experience also required a delicate and precise method of working in order to ensure components do not get damaged through assembly.

Working in the Cardiovascular Sciences department, I produced a mathematical model of a vascular section of the brain called the 'Circle of Willis'. The objective of this model was to assess the characteristics of flow through each vessel, accounting for anatomical variances across individuals.

As a member of the drivetrain team, I was involved in designing and manufacturing components for an electric race-car, in order to compete against other universities at Silverstone. This was a communicatively demanding project which required constant collaboration with multiple team members across various sub-systems.

At Henrob, I initially worked as a member of the design team, aiming to amend rejected drawings of both 2D and 3D alike. Later, I joined the applications department where I tested rivet and material combinations as requested by the applications engineers, to carry out a more rigorous analysis.
