We bring data science to deliberative democracy, so that governance can better reflect the public will. Our flagship software, Polis (https://pol.is), is a platform leveraging machine learning to empower the public in rapidly shaping an understanding of public opinion on a topic. By mapping out the opinion landscape with unsupervised learning methods, and surfacing points of consensus, Polis can break through political gridlock by directly engaging the public to weigh in on issues. Designed and implementing the machine learning algorithms and data visualizations behind pol.is. Also contributed to UI design, market analysis, user analytics, and company strategy.

Building, maintaining and running pipelines for processing deep sequenced immunological data, and analytic applications which empower biologists (and HIV researchers in particular) to visualize and explore these data sets in order to better understand the dynamics of the immune system.

Software development, data analysis and scientific research under the direction of Erick Matsen in the Computational Biology Department. Set up and maintained data analysis pipelines, performed statistical analyses and produced data visualizations. Contributed to the design, execution, interpretation and write-up of experimental research, culminating in the publication of several papers.Topics studied included: human microbiome, metagenomics, molecular epidemiology, virus evolution, and viral transmission patterns.

Application development and data analysis consulting. Past projects include:* Extension of Luxel's Run Records database application to account for multiple systems, furthering coverage of it's time saving and data security benefits.* Custom art gallery web application design and implementation, with content management features.* Emergency notification tools for San Juan County's Department of Emergency Management.* Instrument automation programming for researchers at University of Washington's Friday Harbor Marine Biology Labs.

Luxel is the world's premier producer of free-standing thin film optical filters. Their products are used in space research, fusion research and various medical applications. In the lab, I ran experiments and thin film depositions; Outside, I performed data analysis, instrument programming, and data management programming.Accomplishments:* Developed a web application for recording thin film deposition data, replacing the company's paper records, saving time and money with improved search capability, and improving data security with automated data backups.* Applied FEA and other analyses towards improved understanding of product quality.* Made things that got sent into space.

Handled drop in tutoring sessions in a wide variety of subjects: all levels of mathematics, physics, general chemistry, and some biology. Occasionally substitute-taught math classes or proctored tests while faculty were absent and offered workshops for intro science and math classes.

For the Methods of Applied Mathematics program; regularly tutored students in the various mathematical subjects studied through the program. Further, graded papers, proctored tests and created a solution manual for several of the subjects which had none. This manual was typeset using LaTeX as a typesetting language and Mathematica for graphics, providing a valuable resource which the program still uses today.
