Managed server infrastructure consisting of approximately 2,000 servers spread across 4 physical data centers and 6 virtual AWS data centers worldwide. Approximately 90% of the servers were bare metal with the remaining 10% being split across AWS and KVM instances. Clusters were built with disposable commodity hardware, primarily using PSSC Labs CloudOOP hardware. KVM instances were built using HP ProLiant hardware. Managed three major Cloudera Hadoop clusters. Two clusters were primarily HDFS, YARN, and MapReduce2 job clusters. The other cluster primarily ran Hbase & Oozie jobs. Each cluster contained approximately four petabytes of HDFS storage and served to produce the company’s main product offering, which is aggregate scores of web content. The scores were primarily used for brand safety advertising purposes. Companies could choose not to advertise on pages which might contain controversial or contentious subject matter. Managed a replicated MySQL database cluster consisting of a master and approximately 20 slave database servers worldwide. Substantial replication debugging work required for this cluster. Performed standard on-call operational duties. On-call schedule rotation was once every six weeks with a full 24/7 week on-duty. Performed DevOps duties managing the development environments, plus assisting developers with unique one-off needs for special projects.

Managed Storm, Hadoop, and Couchbase infrastructure consisting of approximately 200 servers. The infrastructure employed secondary Vertica and Oracle database clusters. Kafka was used as the messaging service for streaming advertising data. Couchbase consisted of 10 terabytes of memory storage. Hadoop consisted of about a petabyte of storage. The company’s primary product offering was an analytics system called Turbine. It produced targeted data for serving display advertisements on major web sites.Performed daily operational tasks of company infrastructure in three data centers housing production, QA, and development environments.
