About Christy Chan

Hello Linkedin. I'm a conceptual artist, filmmaker and creative director who prototypes artistic platforms in order to open conversations and activate public and private spaces. I love bringing my favorite people together to work on weird, funny, compelling, challenging and impractical new ideas, and have overseen the production of creative work in over 16 countries, including campaign work for clients including Nike, Apple, Discovery Channel, and more. For Ogilvy and Mather, I was a co-Executive Creative Director on the development and global launch of Dove Real Beauty in 2004. From 2005 - now, I have been a seasonal freelancer for clients and a full-time artist on visual art and film projects. I am currently not available for freelance work, but please holler if you have something special coming up ahead. We live in weird times, but we can always make things we like. Creative Capital is pleased to announce the 2024 “Wild Futures: Art, Culture, Impact” Awards in Visual Arts and Film/Moving Image, totaling $2.5 million in grants to artists for the creation of groundbreaking new works. Chosen via a democratic process of peer review of U.S. artists, these project proposals were awarded on the basis of their innovative approaches to painting, drawing, sculpture, public art, video art, architecture and design, printmaking, installation, documentary film, experimental film, narrative film, and socially engaged forms. "The selected 50 projects poignantly navigate personal and political questions that shape our human experience and collective imaginations of the future, from Hawaiian and African diaspora, to aging in relation to geological time, to sci-fi and Afrofuturistic AI humanoids, to blood quantum, burden belts, and new monuments to Native survival and creativity.” —Dr. Aliza Shvarts, Director of Artist Initiatives, Creative Capital

  • Freelance
    Freelance Creative Director And Writer
    Freelance 2004 - Present
    San Francisco Bay Area
I'm a freelance ECD, for both agencies and client side. For the past 25 years, I've created concepts for global and national campaigns that speak to a bigger cultural or political moment. I'm curious about real people and their stories, and I love the absurd. Besides my years in the for profit sector, I work as a professional maker and visual artist. My public art projects have been installed throughout the U.S. and I am honored to be the founder of multiple non profit projects that partner with grassroots organizations to center the voices of everyday communities.I enjoy working with creative problems of all kinds, and after many decades working with many agencies and teams, am as optimistic as ever that media can be used for good and for growth.Lastly, I direct commercials. Feel free to ask more about that.Portfolio:www.hellochristychan.com

Richmond, Ca City Hall Jan 2019 - Present
I am the artist-director of "Inside Out," a large-scale, night-time video installation to be projected on to Richmond City Hall beginning August 2019. An intervention on the current mis-use of the word "wall" as a way to divide people, "Inside Out" gives the city's walls to its people. The project will display phrases submitted by local residents and workers with their thoughts on their government and community. On "live nights" we will posting projections in real-time, as phrases are sent to us. Much gratitude to the Richmond Art Commission for funding and supporting this project, during a time when free speech and activism by under-represented groups are discouraged and under threat.
