In November 2013, The American Civil War Center (ACWC) and the Museum of the Confederacy (MOC) announced that they have joined forces to create a new Civil War museum in Richmond, Virginia, combining the ACWC’s historic site at the Tredegar Ironworks with the MOC’s unparalleled collection of artifacts. The new entity will allow both institutions to showcase their extensive collections, expand their research and educational programs, and further establish Richmond as the foremost Civil War destination in the United States. The goal of the new museum is to combine the strengths and legacies of each institution to help people learn history in all its breadth and scope. It will tell a multitude of military, political and civilian stories of the people of the time –Union, Confederate, free and enslaved African Americans, and others. It will strengthen, preserve and interpret the combined collections of both museums, creating dynamic and interactive exhibitions; presenting engaging educational programs and symposia; and encouraging original research for a diverse national and international audience. Like the ACWC and the MOC, the new museum will remain a privately-owned not-for-profit entity. As CEO, my primary responsibilities include: • Overall strategic management at all sites including Appomattox, Historic Tredegar and White House of the Confederacy-- including all programs, operations and facilities• Development of exhibitions—both content and execution for all sites/facilities• Development of the Experience Theater• Overall management of Visitor Services and Retail operations• Human Resource administration and personnel development• Richmond National Battlefield Park, NPS relationship management• Marketing, Public Relations and Social Media • Funds Development—including membership, annual fund, capital needs• Community and Government Relations

Primary Responsibilities:Maintains and enhances the Center's essential mission through the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan.Provides visionary leadership for high-quality, innovative programming and delivery methods, serving as a distinctive model for other history centers. Strengthens the visibility, recognition, and visitation of the Center.Maintains effective working relationships with board members, staff, and advisors of the Center.Builds partnerships and strengthens relationships with corporate, education, community groups, and individuals as needed to broaden the impact of the Center.Exercises leadership for the Center's fiscal, human, and physical resources.Major Accomplishments to Date:--Earned Revenues have increased 61% from FY 2009-FY 2013--Museum Attendance has increased 81% from FY 2009-FY 2013--Developed and launched $8 Million Forging Our Future Campaign in September 2011. Completed September 2012-Rebranded site as Historic Tredegar in partnership with Richmond National Battlefield Park, National Park Service--Restructured operations to improve visitor service and reduce costs.

Develop client base in the arts and cultural community. Assist organizations with all phases of business development including board and institutional assessments, capital campaigns, and program planning.

Major accomplishments:Clarified vision, mission, and established a strategic plan to address declining admissions and revenues while strengthening exhibitions and programs to better meet community expectations and needs.Developed and led five year, $43.3 million Legacy Campaign; 85% of goal reached within 3 years. Increased membership level from 3500 to over 15,000 during tenure.Envisioned and served as project manager of new, permanent, $12 million, 22,000 sq. ft. exhibition titled And Still We Rise: Our Journey Through African American History which opened November 2004.Responsible for leading all facets of the museum. Managed annual operating budgets in excess of $7.0 million, led staff of 80+ full-and part-time staff, and ensured coordination of capital needs for the 120,000 square foot facility.

Major accomplishment(s): Led a team of developers and others to create reenactments, dramas, character portrayals, tours and other daily programs for Historic Area.Coordinated initiatives with research, publication, exhibitions, productions, and others to ensure program quality.Managed human and financial resources to ensure organizational efficiencies while maintaining program quality.

Major accomplishment(s):Directed, developed and/or oversaw programs, operations and staff of African American Programs, Religious Studies, Divisional Training, Women's History Programs, several historic houses and traditional trades.Responsible for 130+ employees in historic trades, living history, educators and program developers.Managed annual budget of $3.2 million that included revenue generation from admissions, product sales, outreach, grants, and gifts. Manage expenses such as payroll, goods and services, as well as new facilities.Prepared a variety of financial, operational, personnel, and instructional documents to meet diverse needs of intended audiences.Represented the museum at a variety of community, professional, and government functions.Director, African American Interpretation and Presentations

Developed and managed the African American component of the historical narrative. Responsible budget development and implementation for the AAIP unit.
