Galveston, Texas

As an HR Specialist I managed and audited all benefit plans for the City of Galveston. I developed and organized open enrollment annually. I created educational videos and content for employees. I enrolled all new hires and handled special enrollments to plans throughout the year. I scheduled and organized an annual health and benefits fair for employees. Routine visits from supplemental plans were arranged for City employees. I provided special assistance to employees with issues or questions about insurance plans or retirement plans. I entered and monitored deductions for all benefits elected by employees. I conducted employee investigations and made recommendations based on my findings. I conduced all exit interviews and tracked data to be used to lower turnover. I terminated separated employees in all insurance systems as well as City employee systems. I handled all pre-employment including background checks for the City. I also developed and conducted orientations and arranged trainings for employees. I played a key role in the creation of a formalized training program to be rolled out to all employees with focus on supervisory employees. I was appointed Civil Service Director in 2022 and assisted both Police and Fire. I proctored Civil Service entrance and promotional exams for police and fire. I assisted with Civil Service grievances, collective bargaining, and commission meetings. I provided interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements. I handled record management for employee data, benefits data, and health board items. I arranged and took minutes for the City’s Health Board. I audited and managed data related to insurance plans.

Galveston, Texas

In this position I handled all recruiting and application screening for our hiring process. I assisted employees and civilians when they came into the HR office by providing assistance when needed and directing them to the appropriate department. I took all calls and routed accordingly. I handled filing and record keeping for the department. I assisted with special projects as needed including a revision to the appraisal system. Assisted in conducting Civil Service exams for Police and Fire departments. I served in this role for around two months before being promoted to HR Specialist.

I was responsible for aiding in the development of a learning and development strategy for Premier. Premier had recently revised its company strategy and decided to add a focus on learning and development. While in this role I researched company history and training opportunities relevant to the company's needs. I created a list of available resources for Premier and a general L&D framework for Premier to refer to. I gave suggestions on ways to implement a strategy and where to focus efforts. I also conducted interviews with management and used this data to compile a list of recommendations. My proposed strategy and recommendations were presented formally in a management report delivered to Premier. This report gives Premier a lasting plan for their new strategy to further grow and develop their staff. In addition to this special project I have assisted with recruitment and interviewing. I also assisted with HR admin duties as needed. I have handled PO's, sending post, arranging couriers, organizing records, ordering stationary, arranging training, booking accommodation, and more.
