I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis in molecular biology and biochemistry and a minor in chemistry from the University of Utah.From 1998-2013, I worked as a lab technician in the laboratory of Dr. John Phillips. The lab was part of the Division of Hematology in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah. We studied Heme biosynthesis and the diseases, porphyrias, caused by problems in the pathway. My specialty was in understanding mutations in the genes. Of particular interest was the fifth step in the pathway, uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase (UroD). When the activity of UROD is suppressed, it causes porphyria cutanea tarde. I spent 2013-2015 working in the laboratory of Dr. Joseph Prchal, also in the Division of Hematology, as a laboratory technician.I currently work in the laboratory of Dr. Neli Ulrich in Cancer Control and Prevention at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. I have worked there since 2015. I started as a research analyst and have since been promoted to lab manager. We study colorectal cancer from multiple angles. My particular focuses are inflammatory markers and adipose/tumor interaction.
