Learning By Heart is an initiative with two principal goals: to provide children and adults in the UK with the educational support they need, while in turn helping to widen access to education for young people across the world. ​We provide online classes in a wide range of subjects, run by volunteer tutors, in exchange for donations to educational charities. Classes are delivered remotely using videoconferencing platforms so we are able to reach pupils all over the country.

Non-Executive Director for Young Enterprise South West, an educational charity which helps promote business understanding and the development of entrepreneurs in schools, colleges and universities. Part of the board, active at regional & local level developing & delivering new programmes until the region was absorbed into a national structure in 2011.

Managed a global team responsible for delivering solutions in the areas of network admission, client compliance & remediation, manageability & performance, imaging and data management for Intel's 100,000+ user base. Dual role as IT Engineering site manager for the UK and senior IT staff member, remit also included improving client productivity and enabling mobilised applications.

Responsible for driving mobility strategy within IT working closely with Intel's Mobility Group, leading a number of mobility initiatives & compelling proof points in areas such as Mixed Network Devices (cellular/WiFi), Primary Wireless Campus (removal of wired network) & WiMAX.Created a Sales Force Solutions initiative with a focus on usage modelling and handheld device usage leading to a mobilised application framework model to enable better mobile applications.Created an IT mobility hub, building strong relationships across IT and business units to drive alignment on mobilised solutions. Compiled and reported out to senior management within the Mobility Group on the IT enterprise view of new Intel developments such as hardware virtualisation, multi-core processors and Active Management technology.

Built and led a European team developing architecture solutions for ebusiness applications both regionally & globally. The team were consistently recognised for successful early adoption of new technologies and innovation. This included owning & driving a shared hosting platform initiative which was adopted as the global standard for all non-mission critical applications and drove a 40% consolidation of servers. The technology and processes developed reduced the time taken to develop & deploy applications, reduced support costs and improved uptime and availability.Alongside this I was an IT@Intel subject matter expert and core external presenter across client, server & operational areas, frequently requested to present on subjects such as mobility, client refresh, TCO, consolidation, operations and security. Engagements included companies such as Reuters, Accenture, BT, Orange, Vodafone, Barclays Bank, HSBC, Australian National Bank and the Italian Post Office. This extended to breakfast round table seminars and joint sessions with Microsoft.

Seconded to BT via an IT@Intel arrangement spending 5 months working with the BT Group CIO Office on IT strategy and plans at their head office in London. Work included papers/presentations on general IT direction and specific aspects of BTs infrastructure and approach, as well as IT@Intel sharing sessions discussing best practice across a wide range of topics including TCO, productivity, early forms of BYOD, virtualisation and hot desking/remote working. The work also led to an extended relationship between BT & Intel rather than a customer/supplier approach.

Intel Online Services was an entirely new business unit within Intel created to provide next generation managed hosting services to the dotcom boom. I created, recruited and led the EMEA Systems Engineering team working with external customers on high value, complex projects such as Big Brother, Williams F1, Guinness World of Records and BP.The role required a close relationship with Sales & Marketing on all key customer engagements and public events, developing the value proposition and successfully changing the model being used for sales in EMEA. The role also linked closely with operations as the data centres were built and fitted out ready for hosting assisting with recruitment and training of all staff.

Based in the UK and subsequently the US, managed several global projects aimed at improving Intel's processes via early adoption of e-Business. These included the re-write of the worldwide Supply Line Management application and the creation of Intel Business Link, an OEM and Distributor ebusiness portal for Intel which had to move from conception to implementation of a first release in 14 weeks. As well as a large team of developers, new methodologies (such as Use Cases, Unified Modelling Language & Agile Development) were introduced which have since become the standard.At the time the project pushed the limits of extranet systems in areas such as security, authentication and encryption. The project was the first at Intel to use high grade encryption outside of the US and dealt with issues such as performance in Eastern Europe & Asia. The project also involved the management of the integration of a number of other projects and globally dispersed teams to deliver a fully integrated solution which delivered $1 billion of eCommerce revenue in it's first quarter and has continued to be the cornerstone of Intel's ebusiness solution for it's customers.

Led the technical aspects of Intel's European Field Intelligence programme initially based around Lotus Notes migrating this to one of the first web based extranet solutions. Managed the implementation of the initial European internet and intranet infrastructure for Intel including early web based e-business applications. Was part of the team which managed the response to the 'Pentium FDIV bug' incident in Europe dealing with the call tracking aspects.
