About Christopher Volker
I am a higher education professional who focuses on effective messaging, communication strategies, and strategic planning/ execution. Within my role, I am a collaborator, learner, leader, problem-solver, and team player. I work with school leaders to ensure strategic imperatives are met and effectively communicated with internal audiences. Within my current role, I create communication messages for internal audiences on behalf of the Villanova School of Business (VSB) and the Office of the Dean. Specifically, I prepare the speaking materials for the Helen and William O'Toole Dean in the form of scripts, talking points, and meeting briefings. Moreover, I collaborate on event and meeting content; provide reasoned counsel on school initiatives and VSB's strategic plan; serve as the primary liaison to the VSB Dean's Advisory Council; and collaborate with other VSB leaders and departments to achieve the strategic imperatives of the school, thus ensuring its operational efficiency. I also serve on various internal committees and councils. Prior to pursuing a career in higher education, I earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communication from the University of Delaware with a concentration in mass communication. My academics focused on media effects and framing functions of news organizations. Graduate student research included: framing techniques of sports broadcasting, content analyses of sexual and violent content on network television, and proposed research designs regarding effects of alcohol advertising. For my undergraduate work, I studied broadcast journalism and served as a student-television journalist, covering national politics. Earlier in my career, I instructed courses in communication for various institutions. These included public speaking, mediated (mass) communication, and communication coaching. Within these courses, students were taught practical skills, grounded in communication theory and strategic practices, to further enhance their interpersonal and mass communication competencies. I led multiple communication centers in which peer tutors assisted students in becoming more confident and competent oral communicators. In these roles, I hired, trained, and supervised student-staff and implemented new approaches to grow the center's client base and standardize its operations.
Listed skills include Public Speaking, Social Media, Microsoft Word, Communication, and 11 others.
