Musician, Composer, Sound Artist, University Senior Lecturer, Academic, Higher Education Manager, Creativity Expert.I have been a musician all my life. I completed my undergraduate studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire as a violinist and composer studying with Rimma Sushanskaya and Andrew Downes. I graduated with a first class BMus (Hons) in 1996 and worked as a visiting Lecturer at the Birmingham Conservatoire in music composition, technology, sound recording, and free improvisation. In 1999 I took a post as Associate Lecturer in Music Composition and Professional Practice at Coventry University, completing my postgraduate certificate in Higher Education in 2000. I started my work with the University of Derby in 2001, completed my Master of Philosophy of Music (MPhil) in 2004, and was recognised with Fellowship status of the Higher Education Academy in 2009 and Senior Fellowship in 2014. During my career I have been privileged to have worked with exceptional artists and musicians, arts agencies and organisations, to have released many commercial albums, performed as a session musician with number 1 single-selling, incredible bands and song writers, directed parkour athletes and video shoots, developed events with amazing community groups, debated and discussed with inspiring researchers and academics, and most importantly, worked with incredibly creative and talented undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have managed at a senior level in Higher Education and have considerable experience of working both with university executive and across the HE sector.I have passion for sound/music, art, education, people, and creativity. My goals are simply to continue to pursue these interests and to help others pursue theirs.Specialties: Music composition and production, sound art, creativity and creative thinking, assessment in higher education, technology enhanced learning, music history, cultural studies.
