Dissertation Topic: An Investigation into the Benefits of Tactile Feedback for Laparoscopic, Robotic, and Remote Surgery• Developed an embedded system that added tactile feedback to the da Vinci surgical system.• Designed and implemented software (C/LabVIEW) on a dsPIC33 & Windows PC to read force sensor data, communicate over UDP/IP and Bluetooth, and control custom tactile actuators.• Led a team of five surgeons, pathologists, and scientists in research that evaluated the potential clinical benefits of tactile feedback in robotic surgery. This research led to an NIH R01 award and five years of additional funding.• Managed collaborations with internal and external research groups on projects in machine vision, MEMS sensor fabrication, and surgical robotics.
