With eight patents (2 issued in 2017) in Laser Communications and Fiber Optics for Space Systems, Chuck has led Space Photonics(R) Inc. since its founding. He is now moving beyond successful programs ($28 million) for the US Air Force, Navy, and NASA, and is focused on licensing, integrating, and prototyping the company's intellectual properties (IP) into various aerospace and communications applications with industrial partners, while actively evaluating strategic locations in the USA and abroad. Space Photonics' IP includes LaserFire(R) Free Space Laser Communications, FireFiber(R) and FireRing( R) Fiber Optic Networks. Space qualified FireFiber transceivers have served several platforms on the International Space Station.

Conducted product development and business development for optical communications and signal processing including semiconductor optical amplifiers, acousto-optical switches, and multi-channel fiber optic transceivers.

Conducted research for space flight technologies including high speed fiber optics, fiber optic gyroscopes, acousto-optic signal processors, and laser warning receivers for space applications.
