As an educator, I have to constantly remind myself that my profession is to not simply teach subject matter...there is a higher calling to the education field. Although it seems at times a daunting task, we also have to try our best to mold students into respectable and productive adults. We must motivate students so they can realize their own potential and encourage them to move forward with inspired confidence in themselves. This in turn will allow these same individuals to positively impact others in their school, family, and community…This is what is needed to produce and maintain a productive society. The task is great but the reward is exponentially greater. Over the past 13 years, I have worked with a wide variety of people.(Both students & teachers alike) The first eight years I spent teaching in the inner-city of Jackson. I must say it was difficult at times, however, I did get a chance to meet, work with, and teach some great individuals. It also forced me to "grow" as a teacher...which is something we should all strive to do daily. Ironically enough, now I teach in a more rural setting...which comes with slightly different challenges. With that being said, this is what I have come to realize...there is no substitute for hard work, dedication, and innovation. That is what I try to pattern my teaching after. I feel if I continue to do these things, I can be successful no matter where my path takes me.
