Dr. Keating has been the National Centers for System of Systems Engineering Director since 2003 and a professor in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department since 1994. Prior to joining Old Dominion University, Dr. Keating served more than 12 years in leadership, managerial, and technical engineering positions in the military (U.S. Army) and private industry (Texas Instruments & Newport News Shipbuilding). He is only one of two faculty members in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology to receive both the Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Research awards (top faculty) and has been twice nominated by Old Dominion University for the Virginia State Council of Higher Education’s Outstanding Faculty Award. Dr. Keating has performed research projects for multiple organizations, several including the Riverside Health System, Siemens Automotive, NASA Langley Research Center, Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, U.S. Navy Pricefighters, Takaha Company, U.S. Joint Forces Command, SPAWAR, MITRE Corporation, Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, Lockheed-Martin Corporation, and DePaul Medical Center. He has published extensively in the areas of systems theory based applications, management cybernetics, and system of systems engineering. Dr. Keating is a past president and fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), Board of Advisors member for the United States Military Academy Systems Engineering Department, and is a member of the International Society for the System Sciences, American Society for Engineering Education, Border Security Technology Consortium Executive Committee, and ASEM. His research interests include system of systems engineering, complex system governance, and management cybernetics.
