Brand new to the Cyber Security industry. I am a former active-duty US Marine. I served as an MP (Military Police). After my tour of duty, I went into the building trades. I started out as a mason laborer, moved quickly to mason. After some time, I moved over to fabricating and installing granite countertops, where I excelled quickly to installations manager. The time frame for me in the building trades was from 1994-2010. From 2010-2019 I worked as a Commercial Bus Driver, operating vehicles from vans up to 65 passenger motor-coaches.How does this put me in the Cyber Security field? More importantly-- What makes me a perfect candidate for a career in this rapidly growing industry? Both are terrific questions. As I mentioned, I am a Marine. The thing about us Jarheads is that we are a tenacious bunch. We never give up, we adapt and overcome! In April of 2019, I was rushed to the ER with multiple large pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs). As it turns out, they were caused by long hours of driving. It was also discovered that I have a clotting disorder. Needless to say, the doctors said that I needed to find a different career choice if I wanted to work again. I became interested in cyber security so much that it was all I could think about. During my recovery process, I learned how to 'hack'. I enrolled in Offensive Security's PEN-200 (PWK) and started my journey to obtain the coveted OSCP. I finally passed the 24 hour long exam which involved totally compromising 5 systems with various configurations. It took me 3 tries, but I finally passed the OSCP exam on August 30, 2021 with 100 points. I don't normally like to toot my own horn or brag, but, "Toot Toot!" I relied heavily upon the Intestinal Fortitude that was instilled deep within by my Drill Instructors. I really cannot live the rest of my life being on the disabled list. I decided to overcome my obstacles and learn how to operate in a job field totally foreign to me. This is why I am the ideal candidate for a role in Cyber Security.
