Responsibilities included polishing and clarifying stories after they come from the assigning editor -- to fact check them, clean up grammatical errors, misspellings and to spot any holes that need to be filled and resolve conflicting information. Write compelling headlines and captions for the newspaper as well as search-friendly headlines and story summaries (SEO) for the web. I also "slot" many stories every day -- that is, give them their final read and tweak any headlines written by my colleagues, as needed. I have won numerous in-newsroom awards for my headlines.
