About Chuck Carter
My work on MYST set my career in motion some 30 years ago. It's been that long! I've done a lot!And the past 3 Years have been crazy! And First there was Covid - and then I've been a creative director, Chief Creative Officer and meta world builder and art director. Oh - and part time illustrator for National Geographic and NASA. To say I learned a lot just these past 3 years is an understatement! And I'm always up for a challenge. This year is also the 30 Year Anniversary for a little project where I was responsible for 1/2 of the world and art creation, it was a game called MYST. And then I was lucky enough to work on some 25 or 26 games afterwards. ZED was a game I made with the help of Skymap Games and which CYAN published. A number of reviewers have written ( https://adventuregamers.com/articles/view/37927 )(https://www.geekwire.com/2019/review-myst-creator-cyan-worlds-breaks-indie-games-zed-interactive-memoir-vr/ ) that it was a moving and emotional experience unlike any game they played before. (And some hated it - it's not MYST I was told - LOL! ) What an experience! My career has been filled with a lot of pivots. Matte painting for the TV show Babylon 5, Disney's motion ride - Mission to Mars, years of illustration work for NASA, National Geographic and others - as well as art directing and producing nearly 800 illustrations for a geology book I co-authored for McGraw Hill called Exploring Geology - in it's 6th edition now I believe. In the game industry I was an artist, an animator, a designer, digital set designer and modeler. I worked on set for in game cinematics with live actors in a green screen studio as computer graphics supervisor, then as a compositor. Larger management roles included art director, creative director and art group manager. If you would like to know more - please feel free to contact me. I feel I have the experience to succeed in virtually any environment. And one thing above all else - I've worked with some of the best and brightest people in the various industries I've been lucky to be involved with. Without all of the talent surrounding me it would have been difficult to have the career I've had. So to any of you I've had the pleasure of working with, and who might be reading this - thank you from the bottom of my heart! Chuck Carter - Bangor Maine - 03/29/2023https://www.chuckcarterart.com

Art Group Manager
I managed some 30 artists and their careers as well as work on company strategy in regards to art and design. I scoped out and hired new talent and actively worked with our recruiting department. At VV we also worked with numerous regional universities, colleges and high schools to further digital art and game design curriculum with an eye to developing future local talent pools.I helped develop and plan for new working processes for preproduction and production with the goal of being more efficient and streamlining the pipeline and work flow. I worked with producers and leads to find better ways to implement skills training while working in a tight deadline atmosphere. I slated staff artists to future projects with an eye for putting the right people in the right positions. With other group managers, we collaborated to improve communication between our large departments and find ways to become more efficient and smarter in how we made games.

As Art Director for Smart Bomb - I worked with artists to develop the visual look and feel for the games, and design concepts for new games and prototypes. I also developed concept art as both an artist and art director using freelance and in house artists, and ensured that art being produced for the games was consistent with the vision each project.
Cgi Supervisor/Cinematic Artist
At Westwood I was a jack of all trades. I did game art, concept art, cinematic animations. I worked with the cinematic producer and our in-house director to oversee the production of background digital sets for when we shot live action cinematics. I would co-ordinate with the artists and live action shooting crew and director to ensure that the actors were in their proper places for matching up the CGI sets. I not only helped with the graphics direction, I also produced numerous digital sets, effects work and animation and digital matte paintings as well as acted as one of the digital compositors for the final cinematics.
Artist/Animator
The company that created the video game Myst. Along with Robyn Miller, I created about one half the graphics and animations for the game. I assisted in late design changes and worked on concept art and maps. I also remade the first Cyan game; The Manhole... called The Manhole: The Masterpiece Edition.
