Chuck leads the technology and business development of ChannelScience’s breakthrough multi-format magnetic tape reader for legacy data sets. This new system is eliminating the need to refurbish and maintain vintage drives to access rare data sets for AI/ML training, which enables differentiation and refinement of domain-specific models and agents. Chuck is growing ChannelScience with ~$3M in seed funding he secured to focus the tape reader’s capability on recovering irreproducible scientific data, such as seismic data for nuclear tests. This information is used to improve AI-interpretation of monitoring data for nuclear nonproliferation efforts globally. He and his team are expanding the tape reader’s capabilities to include other digital data formats, as well as analog instrumentation, audio, and video formats.His technical specialties include signal processing, probability analysis, and error correction coding (ECC), especially for data storage and semiconductor memory technologies. Chuck provides expert witness/consultant services in IP matters and is the General Chair of technology conferences “FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage” and “Chiplet Summit.” He completed the Energy I-Corps program based on Stanford's Lean Startup methodology, and the inaugural "Phase Shift II" business development follow-on training from the US Department of Energy (DOE). Chuck is an internationally respected researcher, lecturer, consultant, and leader. He is an award-winning senior member of the IEEE and holds 8+ US patents. He earned an MS in adaptive statistical signal processing from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a BS ECE from Carnegie Mellon University.
