Chuck Taft is a conductor and music director in Western North Carolina. Equally enthusiastic about sacred and secular music, Chuck brings energy and joy to his work both in and out of the church, facilitating personal and musical growth among his project partners, while deftly navigating conflict to achieve positive outcomes. He strives to practice the principle of People over Process in a positive, possibility-filled environment. Chuck received his Master of Music degree in 2018. His research specifically focused on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical impacts of choral participation on an aging population.Chuck Taft has spent the past 20 years studying, developing, and practicing his craft in various settings as a Music Director and Conductor for sacred and secular ensembles, including the Blue Ridge Orchestra, Asheville Lyric Opera, St. Matthias Asheville Chamber Players, many WNC theaters, and musical ensembles at Biltmore United Methodist Church, Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, St. Matthias Episcopal Church, and St. Eugene Catholic Church. He spent eight years as Director of Choral Activities for UNC Asheville and joined their faculty again in the fall of 2016.
