At Automatic I was very fortunate to be part of an incredible team that's built the leading Connected Car Platform that enables any car to be instantly connected to the Internet of Things (IOT). Automatic makes everything about personal and fleet car ownership and driving more convenient, more affordable, safer, and more fun. My responsibilities included Strategic Partnerships, Retail and Marketing (initial 12 months), Manufacturing, Logistics, HR, Finance, Legal & Regulatory, Information Security & Privacy, and Fundraising.Highlights include establishing distribution in leading retailers including Amazon, BestBuy and Target; partnerships with multiple Fortune 500 auto industry companies; responsibility for three manufacturing relationships across Asia and for worldwide logistics operations; recruiting and HR support for 70 exceptional engineering, product, and business team members; managing significant trademark and patent activity; and helping to raise over $30 million from leading corporate, venture capital and venture debt investors.

I led all groups within uSell, including marketing, customer care, operations, product, technology and finance -- and I am extremely proud of the team. At uSell we successfully executed the turn around and transformation of a faltering international gold buying company -- into the leading eCommerce platform enabling consumers to safely and conveniently sell their used electronics to trusted companies. We reduced customer acquisition costs by 80%, cut operating costs by 70%, and grew revenues to a $12 million annual rate just 3 months after the uSell re-launch.

With 30% monthly growth, Ustream.TV quickly established itself as a multi-national leader in the live interactive video broadcast space -- truly building a new market and industry. As CEO, I led an international team in California and Hungary, and we raised significant rounds of capital from leading Angel, Venture Debt and Venture Capital investors - including The Band of Angels, Western Technology Investment (WTI) and DCM.

At Esurance we went after an industry filled with established, powerful competitors like State Farm, Allstate, Progressive and GEICO. We built Esurance from a raw start-up into a market leader. Esurance was acquired by White Mountains Insurance (WTM:NYSE) and then by Allstate (ALL:NYSE). I was a Co-Founder and then held multiple senior executive positions in the company, as a leader in the development and execution of Esurance's business strategy and operations. We raised $40M in Series A and Series B financings from leading venture capital investors including Trinity Ventures, Palo Alto Ventures, Redpoint Ventures and Global Retail Partners.

2001 - 2007: We built a legal team and directed Esurance's legal and regulatory initiatives to aggressively execute our business objectives -- enabling Esurance's unimpeded growth as we pushed marketplace innovation in a highly regulated, conservative industry. Quick highlights include executing acquisition, capital restructures and minority shareholder buyouts; negotiating marketing agreements; managing litigation in State, Federal Appeals, and Delaware Corporate actions; and managing diverse intellectual property initiatives.

2001 - 2007: I served simultaneously as a Director of four companies.

2001 - 2007: I focused intently on information security and privacy at Esurance, first creating then managing information security and privacy programs. We prevented Esurance from incurring any major security or privacy breaches during my seven-year tenure.

1999 - 2001: We built a team and led all departments within Esurance in the negotiation, execution and post-agreement management of strategic partnerships. We established partnerships and significantly grew customer acquisition rates while reducing acquisition cost.

I established international strategic relationships at Remote Source Lighting (RSLI). RSLI's ambitious goal was to penetrate the mass lighting market (homes, offices, stores) with game-changing fiber optic lighting solutions.

1986 -1991: Instructor Pilot - Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock Texas. I led 45 student and instructor pilots with an annual training budget of $25 million -- turning inexperienced students into high-performance jet pilots in less than one years training time. 1991-1993: C-130 Hercules Aircraft Commander - Rhein-Main Airbase, Frankfurt Germany. I lived in a small German village while flying missions into the most dangerous and politically intense spots in Europe, Africa and Asia. As the Wing's Battle Staff Officer, I advised the Wing Commander on the execution of the Sarajevo/Bosnian airlift -- our Wing led a 15 country United Nations airlift force executing the most extensive humanitarian airlift effort in history.1993-1998: C130 Hercules Pilot - Willow Grove Air Reserve Base, Willow Grove Pennsylvania: I transitioned from Active Duty to the AF Reserve to attend business and law school and continued to fly C-130s part time during graduate school. 1998: Staff Judge Advocate General (Air Force JAG) - Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Forget that Navy JAG guy on TV -- the Air Force is where the really cool JAG stuff happens!
