About Chuck Whiting
Chuck Whiting is an award-winning publicist, educator, songwriter/composer, music publisher, and author. He serves as Associate Professor of Mass Communications for Motlow State Community College. A former newspaper reporter, he founded Music City Arts Network in 1993. He has worked with songwriters, musical performers, authors, visual artists, art galleries, hotels, non-profit organizations, and businesses of all kinds. Chuck began his career as a newspaper reporter for The Birmingham (Ala.) News and The Mobile (Ala.) Press Register. After that, he served as a PR representative for Gaylord Entertainment. His arts, entertainment and media firm, Music City Arts Network, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. Shine Time Records and Books, a book and music publishing arm, provides promotional and logistical support for authors and performing artists of all kinds. Chuck is the author and co-songwriter of "The Littlest Star: a musical story", a book and CD featuring performances by musical performers Margo Smith, Denny Jiosa and Conni Ellisor. Other books include "Wordabulous!: Celebrating the Positive Power of Words" by National Vocabulary Championship Coach of the Year Debbie Watts. His Music City Arts Update arts blog announces artist news and accomplishments. The "Publicizing Your Dream" seminar shows emerging artists, entrepreneurs and non-profits how to handle PR. His "Tunesmithing" show spotlights emerging and professional songwriters. Memberships include or have included NSAI, the Recording Academy, ASCAP, BMI, Indie Connect, Song U, and the Country Music Association. He has received awards from the Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Business Communicators, the Public Relations Council of Alabama, Sigma Delta Chi, SGA, and Motlow State Community College.

Striking Moon Music currently represents the song catalogs of Chuck Whiting and the late Marcia Jones. Marcia, who died in 2000, was a talented singer-songwriter who wrote and performed while battling the life-threatening disease Lupus. She passed away in 2000. We are very fortunate to handle her song catalog through Striking Moon Music (ASCAP). Recently, one of her songs ("Closer Than We've Ever Been") was featured in the Hallmark movie "Lake Effects" starring Jane Seymour. A Christmas song in our catalog, "The Littlest Star", has aired on radio around the world.
