As a second year software engineering student at the University of Leicester starting in September 2023, I am eager to contribute directly and positively to the inner workings of software engineering. My passion for this field was ignited before beginning the program in September 2023(University of Leicester). I watched online videos that taught me Python, C++, and data sorting.Through these tutorials, I gained a deep understanding of sorting algorithms, including how to implement them in code, compare their performance, and implement built-in sorting functions. This foundational knowledge has fuelled my desire to apply my skills to tackle real-world challenges.One immediate goal I have is to contribute to processes that aim to achieve carbon negativity using modern day technology. Microsoft's commitment to becoming carbon negative by 2030 and removing all the carbon the company has emitted since its founding by 2050 is particularly inspiring.I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn from the software engineers behind Microsoft's journey towards carbon negativity. Their work in developing innovative solutions like bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) and direct air capture is crucial to fighting climate change.By combining my passion for software engineering with a drive to make a positive environmental impact, I believe I can make valuable contributions to Microsoft's mission. I am eager to apply the knowledge I have gained through my studies and independent learning to help create a more sustainable future.
