Widening Access Practitioner And Volunteer Coordinator
Working with young people and schools in the North East of Scotland as part of Scotland's national Schools for Higher Education Programme (SHEP). The main aim of the programme is to widen access to Higher Education and help inspire pupils who may be at risk of not achieving their full potential.Based in the University of Aberdeen we work closely with partner schools and HE institutions across Scotland to provide a variety of engaging workshops, campus visits, parents & carers events and school activities including one to one support during the college and university application process for pupils. In addition to this I organise and lead two yearly residential trips to allow pupils to get a taste of what HE life is like.My main duties include:• Organising and delivering school activities• Liaising with partner teachers, schools and HE institutions• Organising visits to HE institutions• Developing activities to ensure they are up to date, relevant and engaging• Working closely with pupils on a regular basis, including one-to-one meetings• Providing regular support to pupils during the HE application process• Supporting pupils with personal statement writing and development• Recruiting and training new volunteers throughout the year• Developing and delivering a year round volunteer training programme in child protection, classroom management, public speaking, lesson plan development etc. • Managing groups of volunteers during activities and providing guidance and feedback• Taking a lead on planning and organising residential activities• Updating social media outlets with relevant information for pupils• Supporting ASPIRENorth management in the recruitment and selection of new staff including shortlisting and interviewing candidates.
