I was employed as an Environmental Compliance Monitor (known as an Environmental/Ecological Clerk of Works or ECoW in Ireland), for the Environmental Department of Somerville-Aecon Energy Group, specialists in the construction and maintenance of large diameter steel pipelines for Canada's Natural Gas Industry.As an Environmental Clerk of Works I was tasked with ensuring that construction work met the compliance requirements of the Project Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and works were undertaken in accordance with legislation, best practice, and stakeholder/regulator requirements.My role also required monitoring environmental compliance on our sites as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (BC-CESCL) monitoring Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) measures employed throughout spreads 3 and 4 of the Coastal Gaslink Pipeline Project for our client TC Energy. I worked in tandem with our ESC Installations crew to install, monitor and maintain control measures to manage/minimise negative environmental effects during the construction process and to ensure compliance with the project CEMP. The Coastal GasLink Project is a 670-kilometre provincially regulated pipeline, currently under construction in Northern BC Canada. When completed it will safely deliver natural gas from northeastern B.C. to the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, B.C. for further export to Asian markets.

I joined the Environmental Department of Somerville-Aecon Energy Group (SA Energy Group) in July 2020 and took up my initial role as an environmental compliance and quality control inspector (known in Ireland as Environmental/Ecological Clerk of Works or ECoW), monitoring Biosecurity on spread 4B of the Transmountain Expansion Project (Oil and Gas Pipeline Construction) in Western Canada. The Transmountain Expansion Project is essentially a twinning of an existing 1,150-kilometre pipeline between Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta and Burnaby, British Columbia.As an Environmental Monitor working with the Biosecurity team, I was primarily tasked with implementing the Biosecurity measures outlined in the Environmental Plans set out by Transmountain to ensure equipment cleaning and sanitation procedures and other biosecurity protocols were implemented during project construction on a site-specific basis to prevent the introduction or transfer of crop disease, weeds, and pests. In addition to implementing the Biosecurity measures outlined above, I also assisted the Environmental Manger in the data logging and reporting of the following:• spill reports• water haul logs• hydrovac logs• socio-economic reporting• greenhouse gas reporting

I worked for Coffey Construction, a leading Water and Wastewater Treatment specialist in Ireland, in their treatment plant Operations and Maintenance department from March 2016 to July 2020 progressing in the company through laboratory analysis, project engineering and supervisor roles gaining valuable experience and extensive exposure to the Irish Water treatment industry. In the Operations and Maintenance department my role was as an Environmental engineer/scientist, tasked with coordinating and directing activities relating to treatment plant operations and ensuring that targets were met in accordance with set standards and regulations. Represented Coffey Water Ltd. working on waste water treatment plant Design-Build-Operate (DBO) bundles for Irish Water, Ireland's national water utility, as part of their national strategy which aims to bring Ireland’s wastewater infrastructure to an acceptable standard, capable of supporting growing populations and economic development. This strategy is addressing issues where wastewater, either untreated or only partially treated, is being discharged into the environment, causing environmental damage and breaching environmental legislation. I delivered on project requirements under Water & wastewater process design and mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) through:•Procurement and Specification of plant equipment and instrumentation.•Appointing sub-contractors for mechanical and electrical installations.•Liaising with sub-contractors and client on project delivery and monitoring of site installations.•Inducting site staff and daily monitoring of the the company's Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental system.•Generation of Commissioning documentation and final Operation and Maintenance Manuals.•Development of project schedules to include design, procurement, delivery, commissioning and project handover stages.•Progress monitoring of project to ensure timely delivery of project in line with the project schedule.•Monitoring of projects on site to ensure quality project delivery in line with Clients Requirements and Specifications.•Co-ordination of design activities between design teams and review of design documentation.•Establishment of supplier agreements during procurement of project MEICA equipment.•Liaising with other Project Engineers to ensure co-ordination and performance of work activities.•Close co-ordination between civil, structural, mechanical and electrical sub-contractors to ensure seamless activity progression and integration on-site.

Representing Coffey Water Ltd I was subcontracted as an Environmental Engineer/Scientist (Wastewater treatment operations) to Cara Partners, a bulk pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Little Island, County Cork.Cara Partners is a French-German joint venture which manufactures a standardised Extract of Ginkgo Biloba, EGb 761 ©, an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). The joint venture is between the Ipsen Group of France and the Schwabe Group of Germany. In my role I was responsible for the day to day running of a pharmaceutical plant's waste water treatment works and the maintenance of the pharmaceutical plant’s environmental management system.
