My name is Ciara Bastow and I am a Kennedy Award winning journalist at the Daily Liberal. After spending four years at the Lithgow Mercury, I have moved into the wide world of daily newspapers. I am very excited for this new challenge. I graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Communications (Journalism) degree in 2017. I have completed multiple internships with The Western Advocate, The Mudgee Guardian and The Village Voice newspapers as well as 2BS Gold radio station.Skills gained from these internships include:- Multiplatform content creation- News gathering- Reporting in the field- Live radio reports-Radio news reading - Creating edited audio packageThese experiences allowed me to grow in confidence and ability as a journalist. It also gave me the opportunity to prove my skills as a hard working and dedicated person who puts 100% into everything she does. Outside of journalism I enjoy team sports such as netball, which I have participated in for eleven years. I also try and do as much community volunteer work as I can, such as participating in 'Walk n Talk' and Parkrun. As I also volunteered as a teachers aid for a year, helping kids learn to spell and write. This collaboration showed me another way in which I was able to use my team work abilities. I enjoy reading and writing in my spare time as well as listening to music.
