My role in the community includes the assessment and supervision of medium/high risk sex offenders who are homeless and require supports in terms of re-integration and re-socialisation, and for risk assessment, supervision, and case management purposes.Prior to this I held another dual role where I worked as the Drug Court Liaison Probation Officer in the Dublin Drug Treatment Court, and I also worked as a Probation Officer on the Court Liaison Team completing assessments and Probation Reports for the Circuit Courts/Central Criminal Courts in Ireland. This job role involved meeting with offenders to assess whether they would be suitable for probation supervision or community service work, and assess suitability for the Drug Treatment Court.Furthermore, I also have experience of working as part of the District Court Assessment Team, which involves similar tasks to those on the Court Liaison Team, but primarily involved completing assessments and reports for those who were before the District Courts. -

Some of the tasks undertaken as part of this work included: organising and attending Child in Care reviews; completing care plans for children placed in care; supervising access visits between parents and children; carrying out statutory home visits to children; interviewing parents in order to access parental capacity to care for children; completing referrals for counselling; completing network checks with other professions; attending court for care orders and acting as a witness in court hearings; meeting with schools in relation to the young people; and utilising family therapy with young people by completing genograms etc. This placement also allowed me to develop and enhance many skills such as report writing skills; communication skills; interviewing skills; organisation skills; interpersonal skills; and many more. Furthermore, I applied many social work theories to practice including attachment theory; child-centred approach; task-centred approach; strengths based approach; crisis intervention approach; empowerment theory; and family focussed theory. -
