In collaboration with post-doctorates I assisted in researching recombinant proteins with the goal of being able to identify proteins with pesticidal properties. I used PCR to produce desirable proteins, preformed western blots for protein identification and also purified proteins using chromatography techniques.

I’m a microbiology lab TA where I’m collaborating with both the Professor and my fellow TAs to manage the first asynchronous online lab for the microbiology department at the University of Florida. This includes guiding the students in the course though this new format and through all of the experiments they are expected to complete.

I worked with Dr. Micah Johnson in his non-profit Friendly Neighbors LLC. I was elected by my peers to serve as a Financial Director for this company. I’m currently collaborating with my team on how to best combat childhood homelessness and how to raise public awareness of the negative consequences it can have on a child’s life.

Under the supervision of a postdoctoral researcher, I worked on using a phage display in order to discover peptide binding activity. I dissected aphids to isolate their gut to use in phage display library and in viral inoculation procedures. I preformed In Vivo experiments with aphids and stinkbugs by infecting them via membrane feeding techniques. This research eventually led to two poster presentations at the university level.
